About
Hi and thanks for reading more about me!
I’m Tom Dillon, CFA. I’m the founder of Frak Finance and a fractional CFO based in Chicago, Illinois.
My Story
My interest in finance started early. When I was 18, I was selling Cutco cutlery and making real money for the first time. A wealth manager named Chris Crawley taught me the Rule of 72, and that was it — I was hooked on finance.
I went on to study at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and earned my CFA charter. I started my career at William Blair, a leading Chicago-based investment bank, where I launched an entirely new sector that generated nearly $3 million in three years. My stock picks were up 96% and 53% in back-to-back years, and I developed a proprietary database that became the basis for sector upgrade and downgrade calls yielding 20-40% returns in a single day.
Work
After William Blair, I transitioned into operations as CFO and later CEO of a $10M ecommerce company. I also launched and expanded two real estate companies, growing a multi-family portfolio that now includes $3.3 million in assets under management.
All of that experience led me to found Frak Finance, where I now work with small-to-medium businesses, software companies, and ecommerce brands as a fractional CFO. I step in when companies need experienced financial leadership without the full-time commitment. My services include financial organization, bookkeeping, audit readiness, M&A guidance, valuations, HR consulting, risk management, and tax strategy. I’ve built the consultancy into a seven-figure business.
I also host the CFO Chronicles podcast, where I share the secrets behind financial leadership and business growth.
Personal Life
I’m a father and I live in the Chicago area. When I’m not working with clients, you’ll find me on the golf course, traveling, or spending time with my family.
